COUNTYWIDE VISION ZERO

Harris County

Gradient Group, LLC was entrusted by Harris County Commissioners Court to lead the countywide Vision Zero Action & Implementation Plan development. Vision Zero is an integrated part of future transportation plans and projects to reach the overarching goal of zero traffic fatalities and severe injuries in Harris County by 2030. This countywide Vision Zero plan reshapes the way we think about and achieve safety on our roads, considering safe streets, safe speeds, safe vehicles, and safe people. Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries among all road users, and to ensure safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.

Each year, more than 300 people are needlessly killed on streets within in Harris County and thousands more are injured from traffic accidents.  The purpose behind the initiative is to develop a Vision Zero Action & Implementation Plan to prevent these tragedies by taking a proactive, preventative approach that prioritizes traffic safety as a public health issue.  One of our goals is to develop engineering design policies and procedures that will be safe for everyone regardless of where they go or how they get there. In the Vision Zero approach to traffic engineering safety, death and injury are not inescapable, and can be prevented through appropriate policy and design decisions. Gradient provided data-driven engineering technical analysis to the Harris County Vision Zero Executive Steering Committee and Engineering Department.
